Two injured in second shooting
Thursday, July 28, 2005 6:58 AM CDT
MARION - For the second time in two days, Marion police have been forced to investigate a residential shooting.

The most recent shooting occurred Tuesday evening and left two men injured, while a third remains on the lam from authorities.

At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Marion police responded to a 911 call at 1301 W. Central in Marion. Police say that, according to resident Ian Copeland, two men with ski masks entered Copeland's garage with each brandishing a handgun. An altercation ensued which resulted in one of the alleged assailants, Irvin Lemons, being shot three times.

Lemons was first transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion and then transferred to St. Louis University Hospital. There was no report on his condition available Wednesday. Copeland sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Heartland.

The second alleged assailant fled on foot before police arrived. Marion Police Chief Ron Swafford said Wednesday that no additional arrests have been made to date as officers continue to search for the other suspect.

Charges are pending following a police investigation.

State police assisted Marion police.

The incident followed a shooting in Marion Monday evening in which 16-year-old Tamika Williams was killed.
