Judge delays former Gov. Ryan's sentencing until Aug. 30

CHICAGO (AP) — A federal judge has pushed back former Gov. George Ryan's sentencing for his racketeering and fraud convictions by about 3½ weeks, according to a court filing.

Ryan, 73, and co-defendant Larry Warner, 67, were to be sentenced Aug. 4 for their April 18 convictions of racketeering, mail fraud and other offenses.

But in court papers filed Friday, U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer ordered the sentencings pushed back to Aug. 30. The delay is to give lawyers time to make additional filings, the Chicago Tribune reported on its Web site Monday.

Both men's attorneys have said they plan appeal the convictions.
