The following Veterans Day events are going on across the region. The public is invited to attend all of the events.
Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church: 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today, 707 E. Webster St., Benton. Honoring current and former Armed Forces members and their families. Veterans are invited to wear their uniforms or other apparel representative of their service. 435-6207.

Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222: 11 a.m. Monday, Veterans Memorial, Vienna Carnegie Library. Guest speakers Major Roy Gilbert, retired, and Captain Janet Gilbert, retired. Co-hosted by Daniel Chapman Daughters of the American Revolution and Johnson County Ministerial Alliance.

Christopher American Legion Post 528: 1 p.m. today. Rededicating the remodeled Christopher Veterans Memorial; memorial was remodeled by Eagle Scout Nick Webb, his family and scouts with money from a state grant. 724-4646.
Du Quoin Elks: 1:30 p.m. today. Presenting medals of valor to local servicemen killed in combat, Drew Uhles of Du Quoin and Wyatt Eisenhauer of Pinckneyville.

Marion VA Medical Center: 5 p.m. today, 2401 W. Main St. Annual candlelight vigil begins on Commander Drive. Participants asked to arrive by 4:50 p.m. Veterans encouraged to wear uniforms. 993-4121.

Murphysboro American Legion Paul Stout Post 127: 11 a.m. today, 1700 Gartside St. Rep. Mike Bost keynote speaker; Honor Guard commanded by Dr. Lewis Strackk with 21-gun salute and Taps. Complementary meal. 985-5464.
Pinckneyville American Legion: 11 a.m. Monday, next to Veterans Memorial outside Perry County Courthouse. Featuring music by Pinckneyville High School Jazz Band; speaker Col. Joe Grasso; and special military honors to recognize men and women who were killed in service. 357-9560.
Southern Illinois Homeless Assistance Concerts: 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, Marion Civic Center. A Salute to Vets program; tickets are $12; proceeds help support homeless through efforts of the Williamson County Family Crises Center, the Carterville Family Clinic, and the VA Medical Center for Homeless Coalition. Attendees welcome to bring 8x12 photographs of family members who have served past or present in the military services.
