West City police to get LEADS

WEST CITY -- West City trustees Monday agreed to provide the village police department with the Law Enforcement Agency Data System, or LEADS.

The computerized system, maintained by state police, will give the police department immediate access to state and national data including information compiled by other law enforcement agencies in the state, the Illinois Secretary of State and the National Crime Information Center.

Village police currently obtain such information through the Franklin County Sheriff's Department dispatch center, West City Police Chief Steve Mumbower said.

The service and related technology will cost approximately $870 per month, he said, and will be online within 90 days.

" In a city government your water department must be self supporting only the money that comes from water bills collected from buisnesses and residences can be used. Do you really think board members who must live in West City would increase their own water bill if the state didn't force them to especially when West City is home rule and has more money in the general fund each month than they can spend. I didn't read one thing about how West City absorbed the previous 8 Rend Lake increases when all other cities passed each increase onto the customers. Also if West City doesn't raise the rates then the state will and it be dramaticly more than what the board would raise it. "

" This sounds like a waste of tax payers money to me. West city is a small town with the county police dep. with in 2 miles away. I would think if west city had all this extra money to spend they should give it back to the tax payer. In a rebate like a brake on the water bill or somethimg like Ina did!! "
