Union County accident sends three to hospital
By Tara Fasol, The Southern

UNION COUNTY – A Saturday morning accident on Old U.S. 51 in Union County sent three people to the hospital.

Information on that accident was provided by Illinois State Police District 22 in Ullin, and stated that Ronnie L. Davis, 42, of Jonesboro was the passenger in a vehicle that was struck head on. The ISP media line listed Davis' injuries as non-incapacitating.

On Monday, family members of Davis told The Southern Illinoisan the Cobden resident was seriously hurt in the crash. They said her injuries were incapacitating.

"She actually had a broken pelvic bone and sacral bone," said Nancy Dillow, Davis' sister. "She had a hematoma in her pelvic area and internal bleeding. They transferred her at 7:30 on Saturday night to Barnes-Jewish (Hospital in St. Louis) and she was in their trauma center until 8 a.m. on Sunday morning."

Dillow said her sister is in need of pelvic surgery but is not a candidate for the surgery because of numerous blood clots in her stomach and legs.

"They had to give her a blood transfusion this morning," Dillow said. "She is most definitely incapacitated. They called us in and said it could be fatal, yesterday morning."

State police said Monday that the label of "non-incapacitating" was given to Davis' injuries at Union County Hospital in Anna, where she was first taken after the accident.

The hospital, however, refuted that explanation for the injury report. Mary Rothschild, director of marketing for the Anna hospital, said Monday, "They did not receive information from the hospital."

Dillow described her sister as an outdoors person and the owner of a Cobden bar. Davis has three children. Her husband was killed in an accident in 2000 on Interstate 57.
