Future of the Varsity discussion to be held next week
BY THE SOUTHERN
Friday, July 18, 2008 9:16 AM CDT
CARBONDALE -- Leaders of Carbondale Community Arts, the Stage Company, and the Varsity Center for the Arts will host a public discussion on Wednesday, July 23, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center about the future of the Varsity Center for the Arts project.

Carbondale Community Arts and The Stage Company are working to envision a future for the center as a resource for area civic, art, and cultural entities and as an anchor for downtown Carbondale.

A summer-long assessment of the space and public access needs and wants of area artists, presenters, and civic organizations is being conducted. The July 23 session will include brainstorming about the future uses of the Varsity Center for the Arts and updates about progress to date.

" I wish I could be in town for the meeting. I would like to see the Theatre consider creating a stage that allows for symphonies/orchestra's, operatic groups, and etc. Hopefully their main focus was not just going to be on bringing in stage plays.
This are needs more musical entertainment, on a regular basis, than what is already provided. "
