Last of free dump days set for next week in Williamson County
BY JOHN HOMAN, The Southern
Thursday, September 25, 2008 11:42 AM CDT
MARION — The last free dump day in 2008 for Williamson County residents is scheduled for Oct. 4.

County Board Chair Brent Gentry said there will be two dump locations — at the highway department on Illinois 37 just north of Marion and in the main parking lot of John A. Logan College in Carterville.

Dump times are from 9 to 11 a.m. Only county residents are permitted to participate. The free dumping is not open to businesses. Those items that will not be accepted are yard waste, tires, paint and other chemicals.

Gentry said Midwest Waste, CWI/Southern Illinois Regional Landfill and Burris Disposal have again volunteered to remove the debris.

“This is a cleanup project that has been ongoing for the last four years,” Gentry said. “Our goal is to provide free dump days for residents in an attempt to reduce the risk of trash being thrown to the side of the road. With these dump days and our adopt-a-highway program, we believe we are making a difference in the county.”
