Man killed in one-vehicle crash
By Becky Malkovich, The Southern
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 11:35 PM CDT
A one-vehicle crash discovered early Sunday resulted in fatal injuries for a Sesser man.

Cecil Kent Eubanks, 42, died in the crash that occurred on Peach Orchard Road, about a quarter-mile east of Sesser Lake Road, Franklin County Sheriff Bill Wilson said.

The crash was discovered by a passerby at 3:18 a.m., although without witnesses, the exact time of the wreck was not known, Wilson said.

Eubanks was apparently westbound on Peach Orchard Road when his vehicle left the north side of the road and traveled airborne about 40 feet over a creek before striking an embankment and rolling. Eubanks, who was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, Wilson said.

Eubanks' death brings to six the total number of fatalities on Southern Illinois roadways from Friday to Monday.

Two people were killed in a collision on Interstate 57 near West Frankfort, while another man died in a crash south of that site as traffic was backed up near Johnston City.

Two Marion teens died early Sunday when the car in which they were passengers left Illinois 13 near Old Bainbridge Road and struck a traffic signal.
