"We're always looking for a good cause - or a good excuse to have a party," owner Gary Orlandini of Orlandini Vineyard said Sunday about a fundraiser planned next Sunday, Oct. 19, to benefit The Women's Center.
Orlandini didn't have much time to chat Sunday; he was in the middle of a special event featuring entertainment by Elvis and the Space Aliens.
"Elvis was abducted by aliens," Orlandini explained with a hearty laugh. "He didn't really die."
He's sure he and his guests will have a great time at the upcoming "Toast" as well.
The upcoming fundraiser was suggested by Women's Center staff after the success of the center's recent "Little Black Dress" event hosted at another area winery. And Orlandini was more than willing to play host.
"Let's Toast the Women's Center" will be from noon to 6 p.m. at the vineyard, with dancing to the music of the Sam West Trio. Guests can enjoy the wines and the lakeside setting; those who are hungry can purchase hearty soups and sandwiches from C-Infinity Event Center and Catering in Cobden. Dress will be casual. Those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
The $5 donation asked of each guest at the entrance will all go to direct services for clients of The Women's Center. The center's advocates and counselors help survivors of sexual assault and violence throughout Southern Illinois. They meet survivors in their homes, at hospitals, police departments and courthouses.
